i fear that for me, running will always be a work in progress.
i started the couch-2-5k program back in 2011, and while i hate the runs, i love the running community and racing environment.
couch-2-5l [aka c25k] is a 9 week beginners running program that introduces you to running based on an interval set up. you start the program alternating running for 30 seconds, and walking for 90 seconds, and slowly build up to running non-stop for 30 minutes. the program sets you up to run 3 days a week, preferably with a day of rest in between.
i have started this program several times, however i frequently will deter from the program and just run on my own once i get to about the 5th week. near where i live there is a trail that is measured out to be 3.1 miles long, and it alternates between trails, gravel and paved trails. in the warmer months i love to just go there and run on the trails/gravel parts and walk the paved pieces.
running for me is a great stress reliever, and is a calorie torcher. i love the way my quads burn after a run and enjoy the way ending a run makes me feel. unfortunately, i do not love the way my lungs burn or ass jiggles while i am doing it, and really have a hard time keeping my motivation. this is something i would love to work on, as i would love to complete a half marathon at some point or another.
while i love the racing community, let me just say that i will probably never win a race. i am not a fast runner by any means, but i do not let my times bring me down or deter me from getting out there. no matter how fast you are going, you are always going faster than everyone on the couch.
racing history:
10/9/10 Cruisin for a Cure 5k 40:58
10/23/10 Halloween 5k for JA 42:18
11/25/10 2010 Turkeyman Trot 5k 43:00 [this was my first race without walking]
3/26/11 Run for the House 2011 5k 38:40
5/14/11 Fifth Third Riverbank Run 10k 1:22:46
7/31/11 Warrior Dash 1:03:59
11/24/11 2011 Turkeyman Trot 5k 40:35
like i said, i am not the fastest, but i finish. i have not ran any races since late 2011, but am not ready to hang up my sneaks just yet. we shall see what 2013 has in store for me.
